The goals of the Chandra EPO program are to:
  • Share new discoveries about the universe with broad segments of the public
  • Engage the imaginations of students, teachers and general public
  • Increase learning opportunities
We offer the following resources for the education community:
  • Informal Education
    Please Note: These materials are available to educators and amateur astronomy societies for use with their organizations. We cannot fill requests for personal use. On the request form, you must clearly indicate the full name (no abbreviations or acronymns) of the educational institution, museum, planetarium or other educational or amateur astronomy organization for which these materials are being requested, and state your position in it.
    • Printed and visual materials
      1. Posters, postcards, bookmarks, lithos, and a coloring book are available to educators and amateur organizations by request.
      2. A slide set is available through the Astronomy Society of the Pacific.
      3. Two one-hour videos (Gr. 6-12), Live from a Black Hole & Live from the Edge of the Universe are repeat-broadcast on NASA-TV. Cassettes are available through Passport to Knowledge.
      4. A one-hour video (Gr. 11 +) on the making of Chandra is available through UCSD-TV (858-534-9412).
    • A CD-ROM of Chandra images is available by request through the Chandra public web site.
  • Formal Education
    • Classroom-ready activities aligned with national science standards are downloadable.
