Animations: Chandra Archive Collection: Combing Through the "X-ray Files"

A Quick Look at Chandra's Archive Collection
(Credit: NASA/CXC/A. Hobart)
[Runtime: 1:08]

The data collected by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory are stored in a digital archive available to scientists and the public alike.

A collection of images using X-ray data from Chandra's archive and optical light data from the Hubble Space Telescope's archive is being released.

These images help recognize Archive Month, celebrated every October in the United States and promote the contributions of all types of archives.

The objects in this new collection are in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a small satellite galaxy to our Milky Way about 160,000 light years away.
