Chandra Animation of Black Hole in Perseus Cluster
Quicktime MPEG This animation shows how the energetic plumes are driven from the black hole, and extend for hundreds of thousands of light years. Thanks to the new results from Chandra, astronomers now have dramatic new evidence that the influence of a black hole can reach over intergalactic distances.

Enhanced Chandra Images of Perseus Cluster
Quicktime MPEG Special processing has been used to reveal huge low pressure regions in the Perseus cluster (shown in purple in the accompanying image overlay). These regions appear as expanding plumes that extend outward 300,000 light years from the supermassive black hole at the center of the cluster.
