Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 1 July 2005 9:30am EDT

The IEPHIN instrument exhibited another case of anomalous behavior during a period of high operating temperature starting June 30. The power supply voltage dropped as it became current limited due to the high temperature.

A Chandra image release was issued on 27 June describing X-Rays observed from Saturn's rings. The likely source for this radiation is the fluorescence caused by solar X-rays striking oxygen atoms in the water molecules that comprise most of the icy rings. For details see http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2005/saturn_rngs/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes a series of observations of the comet 9P/Tempel 1. These observations cover the period of impact of NASA's Deep Impact mission. Also in the week is an observation of M81 coordinated with ground observations.
