Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 15 April 2016 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Of note this week was the release on Apr 13 of MARX 5.3 and CIAO Scripts package 4.8.3. The MARX release fixes a bug that affects the point-spread function (PSF) for off-axis source simulations. The CIAO scripts package includes a new script, simulate_psf, simplifies the interface to MARX, allowing to simulate a source PSF for an existing observation while using the header information in the file of the existing observation to setup the simulation and projection. The script also supports projection of ChaRT/SAOTrace-generated rayfiles to the detector-plane. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/news.html

Also of note this week was the Chandra Quarterly Review conducted on Apr 13 in Cambridge.

The schedule of targets for the next two weeks is shown below and includes observations of QSO 2237+0305, HETE J1900.1-2455 and SN2016bkv, which were accepted as Director's Discretionary Time Targets of Opportunity on Mar 9, Mar 17, and Apr 1 respectively, observations of IGR J17091-3624 and MXB 1659-298, which were accepted as Targets of Opportunity on Mar 25 and Apr 8 respectively, an observation of SGR 0755-2933, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Mar 17 and is coordinated with NuSTAR, an observation of the Crab coordinated with HST, observations of IGR J17091-3624, MXB 1659-298, and M82 offset 2 coordinated with NuSTAR, and observations of SDSS J1128+0113, 2MASS J10051641+1703264, and 2MASS J11280702+0141304 coordinated with ground-based observatories.
