Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 14 August 2015 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra press release was issued on Aug 11 describing observations of the smallest supermassive black hole found in the center of a galaxy. The tiny heavyweight black hole is located in the center of a dwarf disk galaxy, called RGG 118, about 340 million light years from Earth. The mass of the black hole is about 50,000 times that of the Sun. X-rays from hot gas swirling towards the black hole were detected by Chandra. The black hole may help us understand the formation of much larger supermassive black holes. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/press/15_releases/press_081115.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of H1743-322, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Jun 8 and is coordinated with the VLA and NuSTAR.
