During the last week the observing schedule was interrupted due to high radiation associated with solar activity. The loads were halted at 7:51am EDT on Sep 12 through a ground command to execute the SI Safing SCS 107. This ensured that the accumulated radiation dose for ACIS remained below the allowed threshold. All spacecraft actions were nominal. Planning efforts for the resumption of the observing schedule are on-going and observing will resume once the radiation environment settles. A Chandra image release was issued on Sep 10 describing observations of the supernova remnant Puppis A. Puppis A is located about 7,000 light years from Earth. The new image includes data from Chandra and XMM-Newton and is the most complete and detailed X-ray view of Puppis A to date. The combined dataset reveals a delicate tapestry of X-ray light left behind by the supernova explosion. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2014/puppisa/ |
All spacecraft subsystems continued to support nominal operations.
