During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
A real-time procedure was completed on 27 April to uplink a software patch to modify the Stored Command Sequences (SCS) 107 and 84. The patch provides the capability to transition to Normal Sun Mode (NSM) following execution of the Science Instrument safing actions (SCS 107) in response to a high radiation event. The capability will be used to ensure a favorable thermal attitude for cases when stopping the loads would violate a new propulsion line thermal constraint. A Chandra press release was issued on 28 April announcing the first X-ray image of a pair of interacting stars. The observation, of Mira AB, made use of Chandra's superb angular resolution and allowed the observation of an X-ray outburst from the system's giant star providing evidence that a bridge of hot matter is streaming between the two stars.
