During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A real-time procedure was used to monitor the momentum unload that was executed from the on-board command loads on Mar 5; the unload performance was nominal. A second real-time procedure was executed on Mar 5 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. A Chandra image release was issued on Mar 4 describing observations of the spiral galaxy, ESO 137-001. The galaxy plows through the intra-cluster gas of the Norma cluster so rapidly - at nearly 4.5 million miles per hour - that much of its own gas is caught and torn away. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2014/eso137/ A Chandra press release was issued on Mar 5 as a NASA press release describing observations of the extremely luminous quasar known as RX J1131-1231 (RX J1131 for short). The supermassive black hole six billion light years from Earth that is at the heart of RX J1131 is spinning extremely rapidly. This first direct measurement of the spin of such a distant black hole is an important advance for understanding how black holes grow over time.
