Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 7 February 2014 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Chandra passed through the second, third, and fourth eclipses of the season on Feb 1, 4, and 7 respectively, with nominal power and thermal performance.

A real-time procedure was executed on Feb 5 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer.

A Chandra image release was issued on Feb 6 describing observations of Centaurus A (Cen A), a galaxy about 12 million light years from Earth. Cen A contains a gargantuan jet blasting away from a central supermassive black hole. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2014/cena/

Of note this week was the release on Feb 4 of CIAO 4.6.1, an update that fixes a bug in Sherpa when working in units of wavelength, and a new version of the CIAO Scripts Package, containing bug-fixes and enhancements. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/releasenotes/ciao_4.6.1_release.html

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of GRB 130427A and GRO J1744-28, which were accepted as a Targets of Opportunity on Dec 23 and Jan 31 respectively, and an observation of NGC4151 coordinated with HST.
