Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 4 October 2013 9.00am EDT

During the last week the observing schedule was interrupted due to high radiation associated with solar activity. The loads were halted at 10:04pm EDT on Oct 1 through a ground command to execute the SI Safing SCS 107. This ensured that the accumulated radiation dose for ACIS remained below the allowed threshold. All spacecraft actions were nominal. Real-time procedures were executed on Oct 2 to disable SCS-29, which was enabled during the safing sequence, and to update the observation identifier number, to aid CXCDS processing of the interrupted observation. A replanned schedule for resuming science observations was uplinked on Oct 3 with 85.3ks of science loss. The replan also incorporated an observation of GRB130925A, which was approved as a Director's Discretionary Time TOO on Oct 1. Planned observations of HESS J1809-193, 3C340, PGC 3091110, and Deep Field 09 were impacted and will be rescheduled.

A real-time procedure was used to monitor the momentum unloads that were executed from the on-board command loads on Sep 28 and Oct 3; in both cases the unload performance was nominal.

A real-time procedure was executed on Oct 1 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of SN 2013ej, which were accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Sep 4, and an observation of the Crab coordinated with HST.
