Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 6 July 2012 9.00am EDT

During the last week the Chandra observing schedule was replanned to replace a 15 ksec observation of N158C with two other targets which are less sensitive to variations in the ACIS focal plane temperature. The N158C target will be rescheduled in a future week.

A Chandra press release was issued on Jul 3 describing the violent behavior of V1647 Ori, a young Sun-like star spinning at high speed and spewing out super-hot plasma. Using many years of observations from NASA's Chandra, ESA's XMM-Newton, and Japan's Suzaku telescopes, scientists observed extended outbursts associated with faster growth, a surge in X-ray emission, and a dramatic temperature increase. In addition another variation in X-ray emission was found to repeat regularly with a period of about one day. For more details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/12_releases/press_070312.html

A real-time procedure was executed on Jul 3 to perform a routine self-check of the Electrical Interface Assembly (EIA) Sequencer. A second real-time procedure was executed on Jul 5 to update the on-board ephemeris.

The schedule of targets for the next week which includes the two replanned targets is shown below.
