Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 29 June 2012 9.00am EDT

The Chandra observing schedule for the remainder of the week is being replanned to include a 10ks observation of GRB 120624B that was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time TOO on Jun 28. An observation of LHS353 will be impacted and will be rescheduled in a future week.

A Chandra image release was issued on Jun 28 describing observations of IGR J1104-6103, a pulsar about 30,000 light years from Earth. This pulsar may be racing away from a supernova remnant at about 6 million miles per hour. If confirmed, this would challenge theorists to create models that explain such super speeds out of supernova explosions. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2012/igrj11014/

Of note this week was the release on Jun 27 of CIAO 4.4.1 and CALDB 4.5.0. The CIAO update includes critical bug fixes related to reading in files and the use XSPEC 12.7.1 models in Sherpa and library changes for the 2012 Jun 30 leap-second. The CALDB update includes a new ACIS focal plane temperature upper-limit, new HRC GAPLOOKUP (degap) tables, and updated calibration validity end dates for several files.

Also of note this week was the Cycle 14 Peer Review held in Boston, Jun 25-29.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of RXJ1622.7-2325_P3 coordinated with OVRO/CARMA.
