Friday 28 January 2005 9.00am EST
Loads were resumed at 1:45am on Jan 23 following the major solar event
that stopped loads on Jan 16. A total of 363Ks of science was lost due
to the event, the largest impact for a solar event so far in the
mission. Target observations impacted by the event will be rescheduled
in a later load.
Chandra passed through the final eclipses of the 2005 winter season on Jan 22 and Jan 25 with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was completed on Jan 27 to disable SCS 29 due to the end of the eclipse season. A Chandra image release was made on Jan 25 describing observations of the galaxy UGC 6697, located in the galaxy cluster Abell 1367. The combined Chandra and optical image shows features that suggest that the cluster gas density is at just the right value to trigger star formation by compressing clouds of cool gas in the galaxy. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2005/u6697/ The schedule of targets for last week following resumption of loads and for next week is shown below, and includes an observation of SDSS J0840+5624 coordinated with ground observatories. |
