Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 25 March 2011 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra image release, associated with a press release from Rutgers University, was issued on Mar 24 describing results from a long observation of the Tycho supernova remnant. The observation revealed a pattern of X-ray "stripes" never seen before in a supernova remnant. This result could explain how some of the extremely energetic particles bombarding the Earth, called cosmic rays, are produced. For details see: http://chandra.si.edu/photo/2011/tycho/

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of J1832+0032, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Mar 6, an observation of TWA13A+B coordinated with HST, and observations of Sgr A* coordinated with ground-based a observatory.
