During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
A real-time procedure was conducted on Oct 17 to perform a diagnostic dump of the Central Processing Electronics (CPE). A second real-time procedure was conducted on Oct 16 to update the on-board Ephemeris. A Chandra press release was issued on Oct 15 in conjunction with the Naval Research Laboratory. The release announced the detection of long wavelength radio emission from a colliding, massive galaxy cluster which, surprisingly, is not detected at the shorter wavelengths typically seen in these objects. The discovery confirms the prediction that colliding galaxy clusters accelerate electrons and other particles to very high energies through the process of turbulent waves. For further detail see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/08_releases/press_101508.html The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below. |
