During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
Real time procedures were conducted on Aug 15 to complete the recovery from the normal sun mode transition of Aug 12. These included reapplying the EPHIN I/O (EIO) firmware patches, checking the radiation monitor (radmon) process and enabling SCS 107 and SCS 26. All recovery clean up actions were completed on Aug 15 and the science program resumed as planned. A Chandra image release was issued on Aug 20 of the active galaxy NGC 1275 (radio source Perseus A). The galaxy resides at the center of the Perseus galaxy cluster and is is a strong emitter of X-rays due to a central supermassive black hole. The multiwavelength data in the image allows investigation of the dynamics of the galaxy. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2008/perseus/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below. |
