Operations CXO Status Report, Friday 20 June 2008, 9.00am EDT
During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Chandra passed through the second and third eclipses of the 2008 Summer season on June 15 and 18 with nominal power and thermal performance. A real-time procedure was completed on June 18 to update the on-board Ephemeris. A Chandra press release was issued on June 18 describing observations of the spiral galaxy M81 that show that the properties of the central super-massive black hole are similar to those of stellar mass black holes. The discovery supports the implication of General Relativity that black holes of all sizes have similar properties, and will be useful for predicting the properties of a conjectured new class of black holes. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/08_releases/press_061808.html Of note last week was the Cycle 10 Peer Review held in Boston, June 17-20. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below. |
