Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 4 October 2002 10.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra press release was issued on Oct 3 as a NASA HQ Space Science update. The SSU described observations that for the first time track the time evolution (life cycle) of a jet emitted from a stellar-scale black hole. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/02_releases/press_100302.html.

Of note last week was the approval of a waiver to the 20 degree bright Earth limb limitation for two upcoming ACA tests. During the tests stars will be acquired from normal pointing mode at 10 degrees from the bright earth limb. The tests are the last of a series that are expected to lead to a reduction in the limitation aimed at increasing in scheduling flexibility.

The observing schedule for next week is shown below and includes two observations of 47 Tuc coordinated with the Hubble Space Telescope, and an observation of GX 13+1 coordinated with RXTE.
