Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 26 July 2002 5.00pm EDT

During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned - and passed 3 years of operations on July 23!

A Chandra press release was issued on July 23 describing observations of a nearby dwarf galaxy emitting oxygen and other "heavy" elements into intergalactic space. The observation supports the idea that dwarf galaxies may be responsible for most of the heavy elements found between the galaxies. For more details and the image, see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/02_releases/press_072302.html.

Approval was given to uplink a software patch to the B-side OBC to update the gyro scale-factor and alignment matrix to match the A-side values uplinked on July 16. The uplink is planned for next week.

The observing schedule for the next week is shown below and includes a phase constrained observation of Cyg X-1.
