Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 16 November 2001 12.00pm EST

During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A real-time procedure was completed on 12 Nov to uplink a flight software patch to decrease the momentum unloading dead-zone from 6 to 2 ft-lb-sec. The momentum auto-unload threshold was also commanded from 27.9 to 31.9 ft-lb-sec. The new values were tested on-orbit by pre-loading momentum to a value above the new threshold and verifying that auto-unloading reduced the momentum to the new dead-zone value. The procedure was completed with expected results. As noted last week, the new values will expand the momentum envelope and result in a reduced number of Momentum Unloading Propulsion System warm start firings. A real-time procedure was also completed on Nov 12 to update the on-board ephemeris.

The schedule of observations for the coming week is shown below and includes the completion of the current series of long observations of the Hubble Deep Field North. Note that the maneuvers and commanding associated with the Leonid meteor and the first observation following the peak are included at the end of last weeks schedule. The flight engineering team will be in place this Sunday to monitor Chandra through the Leonid event.
