Friday 20 July 2001 3.30pm EDT
During the last week, Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.
We wish Chandra a Happy 2nd Birthday on Monday July 23 at 12.31am EDT! A Chandra press release was issued on 19 July describing the first unambiguous evidence for a giant halo of hot gas around a nearby, spiral galaxy much like our own Milky Way. For full details (and an impressive image) see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/01_releases/press_071901.html. The planned observations for the coming week are shown below and include a series of ACIS calibration observations of the dark moon. The schedule also includes real-time coverage to monitor the first use of the OTG software patch with the LETG on July 25. The first HETG insertion and retraction with the new OTG software will be monitored in real-time on July 21. |
