Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 13 August 1999 7.00am EST

The Chandra mission continues to proceed nominally.

The following is an overview of the events that occurred over the last 24 hours.

Successfully opened the CHANDRA SUN SHADE DOOR at approximately 1:59 pm EDT on 8/12/99.

Performed Fine Attitude Initialization runs - Established a precise on-board attitude reference using the Aspect Camera. Optical Cavity pressure in down to 5.1X10-06 from 7.8X10-06 during the last 24hrs.

Performed Normal Pointing Mode Checkout - Demonstrated normal Pointing Control and Aspect Determination (PCAD) operations, including maneuvering, auto-transfer to Normal Pointing mode, Orbital Flight Program (OFP) commanded search for stars (based on OFP star catalog) and FID lights, and Kalman filter operations with and without dithering. Since Sunshade Door opening ACIS has remained in the FCM data-taking configuration to begin rudimentary evaluation of the telescope system.
