Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 27 September 2024 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Real-time procedures were executed on Sep 20 to uplink flight software patches to OBC-A and OBC-B that update the contents of SCS-89 and SCS-90 to step up the HRC-I and HRC-S microchannel plate high voltages respectively; this update corrects for the expected decrease in gain over time. Additional real-time procedures were executed on Sep 20-21 to dump OBC-A and OBC-B memory as a follow-up to the flight software patches. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory images maintained on the ground.

A further real-time procedure was executed on Sep 21 to perform an annual check-out of A-side MUPS thrusters, which are selected for use when Chandra is in its safe-mode configuration. Thrusters A2, A3, and A4 were fired and performed nominally. Thruster A1 was not fired due to the expected limited life remaining on it.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below, and includes observations of AT2024qfm, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on Aug 1 and is coordinated with NuSTAR, and an observation of GX339-4, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on Sep 19 and is coordinated with XMM-Newton.
