During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A real-time procedure was executed on Jun 11 to uplink a flight software patch that replaced the SCS 106 ACIS command to power down all Front End Processors (FEPs) with a command that leaves on FEPs 1, 3 and 5 in order to prevent ACIS electronics from becoming too cold. Additional real-time procedures were executed on Jun 12-13 to dump OBC-A and -B memory as a follow-up to the patch. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory images maintained on the ground. Chandra press and image releases were issued on Jun 16 featuring Chandra observations of flares from young stars. By conducting the largest survey ever of star-forming regions in X-rays, a team of researchers has helped outline the link between very powerful flares from youthful stars, and the impact they could have on planets in orbit. The team found several super-flares occur per week for each young star and about two mega-flares every year. For details, see: https://chandra.si.edu/press/21_releases/press_061621.html The schedule of targets for next week is shown below and includes an observation of Sgr A* coordinated with VLTI-Gravity, an observation of QSOJ1131-1231 coordinated with XMM-Netwon, an observation of IGR J16318-4848 coordinated with NuStar, and an observation of 4U 1543-475, which was accepted as a Director's Discretionary Time Target of Opportunity on Jun 13. |
