During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. A real-time procedure was executed on May 14 to update values for the HRC-S high voltage ramp-up steps. This compensates for an expected decrease in HRC-S gain over the course of the mission and follows on-orbit test activity to determine the updated values. Real-time procedures were executed on May 15, May 16, and May 17 to dump OBC-A and -B memory as a follow-up to the flight software patch earlier on May 14. The dump will be used to update the baseline memory images maintained on the ground. Chandra passed through the third and fourth eclipses of the season on May 16 and 18, with nominal power and thermal performance. A Chandra image release was issued on May 20 to describe the availability of Chandra data on a variety of platforms suitable for 3D exploration. These include the Smithsonian Institution's Voyager platform, which enables 3D manipulation, augmented reality, or downloads of 3D printable files. The inclusion of the Chandra collection in Voyager coincides with the release of Chandra's latest 3D model: the supernova remnant IC 443, located about 5,000 light years from Earth. For more details see: https://chandra.si.edu/photo/2021/ic443/ Of note this week was the release of the Sherpa 4.13.1 package for Python. This release includes various documentation updates, bug fixes, and infrastructure changes. For details see: https://sherpa.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SgrA* coordinated with VLTI-Gravity. |
