Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 23 April 2021 9.00am EDT

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Of note this week was the Chandra Quarterly Review conducted on Apr 21.

A Chandra press release was issued on Apr 21 describing Chandra observations of the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A in which an important type of titanium was detected. This titanium is predicted to form in bubbles that drive the explosion of a massive star after its fuel is depleted and it implodes. The detection of such titanium provides strong support for a class of supernova explosion studied in computer simulations. For details see:

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SN2020ywx, which was accepted as a Target of Opportunity on Apr 7, and an observation of RAqr coordinated with HST.
