During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
Of note last week was the successful transition to operations of the Linux version of the ground system. Satellite operations were transitioned seamlessly from the SGI equipment to the new systems on November 29. Mission planning also transitioned with the planning of the December 5 loads. The SGI equipment will remain in shadow operations during a 1 month soak period before decommissioning begins. A Chandra press release was issued on November 29 describing observations of the Supernova 1970G located in the galaxy M101 that have captured the transition of the object from a supernova to a supernova remnant. The process has never been seen in much detail until now, leaving it poorly defined. For further details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/05_releases/press_112905.html The schedule of targets for next week is shown below and includes observations of the target MCG-5-23-16 coordinated with XMM-Newton. |
