During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as
planned.
Chandra passed through a short duration lunar eclipse on Nov 1 with nominal power and thermal performance. The eclipse duration was 26 min 11 sec and with a maximum occultation of 44%. The solar array voltages were within the predicted range on eclipse exit. A real-time procedure was completed following the eclipse to reset on-board eclipse flag to 'medium' in preparation for the next Earth eclipse season in January. A Chandra press release was issued on Nov 2 describing observations of the star cluster Westerlund 1 that have led to the discovery of a neutron star in the cluster, rather than a predicted intermediate mass black hole. The discovery may severely limit the range of stellar masses that lead to the formation of stellar black holes. For details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/press/05_releases/press_110205.html The schedule of targets for next week is shown below. |
