During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Real-time procedures were executed on Oct 28 and Oct 31 to perform full-frame dark current readouts of the Aspect Camera Assembly CCD. A Chandra image release was issued on Oct 30 featuring six objects observed by Chandra in the Large Magellanic Cloud (a small satellite galaxy to our Milky Way, located about 150,000 light years away): five of the images are of supernova remnants and one is of a region of active star formation. Each image is a superposition of Chandra and Hubble data. This release is in recognition of Archive month, celebrated in October, which recognizes the contributions to science, education, and public understanding made by the large, publicly-available data collections assembled by Chandra and other NASA missions. For more information see: https://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2019/archives/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of Aquila X-1, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity accepted on Oct 10. |
