During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned. Real-time procedures were executed on Mar 17 and Mar 20 to perform full-frame dark current readouts of the Aspect Camera Assembly CCD. A Chandra photo release was issued on Mar 21 with a new immersive, ultra-high-definition visualization of the Galactic Center. It shows the effects of dozens of massive stellar giants with fierce winds blowing off their surfaces in the region a few light years away from the supermassive black hole known as Sagittarius A*. To take the tour see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2019/gcenter/ The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes an observation of SDSS J1329+2243 coordinated with HST, an observation of Swift J1728.9-3613, which is a follow-up to a Target of Opportunity which was accepted on Feb 6, observations of SgrA* coordinated with XMM, NuSTAR, and GRAVITY, and observations of M87 coordinated with NuSTAR. |
