TYCHO

In 1572, the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe observed and studied the explosion of a star that became known as Tycho's Supernova.  When the star exploded, its outer layers were hurled out into space.  Today, astronomers can use modern telescopes to see what this extremely hot stellar debris field looks like and how it behaves, as shown below.
