Operations CXO Status Report

Friday 14 December 2012 9.00am EST

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

A Chandra image release was issued on Dec 13 describing NGC 3627, a spiral galaxy located about 30 million light years away. This galaxy is part of a recently completed X-ray and infrared survey of 62 nearby galaxies which focused on the properties of supermassive black holes at the galaxy centers. The data from this survey suggests that the level of black hole activity is not necessarily correlated with the star formation rate. For more details see: http://chandra.harvard.edu/photo/2012/ngc3627/.

Of note this week was the release on Dec 13 of the Cycle 15 Call for Proposals. The proposal submission deadline is 14 March 2013. In conjunction with the call was the release of the CIAO 4.5 analysis software system together with CALDB 4.5.5. The release includes numerous tool enhancements/updates, Sherpa updates to grouping and filtering, and additional ChIPS annotation functionality. For details see: http://cxc.harvard.edu/ciao/releasenotes/ciao_4.5_release.html

A real-time procedure was executed on Dec 7 to re-initialize the flight software Thruster Command Processing subfunction in order to prevent the occurrence of an overflow condition.

The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes observations of NGC1313 coordinated with XMM-Newton and NuStar:
