Operations CXO Status Report

During the last week Chandra completed the observing schedule as planned.

Operational products were approved this week to return to performing angular momentum unloads from the daily loads. Unloads have been performed using real-time commanding from the ground since anomalous thruster behavior was observed in Dec 2002. The conditions that produce the anomalous thruster performance are understood and can be avoided when scheduling the unloads. We plan to resume performing momentum unloads from the daily load with the next required momentum dump.

A Chandra image release was made on Apr 20 of the supernova remnant SNR 0540-69.3. The image shows clearly the intense radiation from a 3 light year region associated with the central neutron star, and from the 40 light year diameter expanding shock front. The schedule of targets for the next week is shown below and includes a series of calibration observations of the oxygen rich supernova remnant, E0102-72.
